The Insurmountable Trust Deficit
Political incentives get in the way. Politicians act for reasons other than just necessarily the public good, because they have to win elections. This leads through a systemac overload. The promise too much, they can't all deliver. That further weakens the state. And then inevitably, the state is over promising under delivering and eventually they can deliver on nothing. People get apathetic, and they learn to live without the state,. as it were.
