We're Primates and We're Incredibly Volatile and Collectively Traumatized

Humans are an incredibly volatile and collectively traumatized species. We have this incredible prefrontal cortex that is this control tower for organizing all the other systems. One of the very special thing that we as humans have uniquely is the ability to make meaning of things. It meant life or death if a caregiver was responding to our needs or not, shutting out or not. So the meaning that we have for a lot of social signals in our life is sometimes more urgent feeling than they actually need to be.
