The name is not the ordinary kind by which we identify ourselves and each other. It allows us to differentiate one person from another, but it only relates to a superficial level of the person. The true name expresses the character, the nature, the being, the meaning of the person who bears it. Jung's concept of the self is directed toward this experience of the mystery of individuality.
