The Role of Victimhood in Stoicism
We play the role of victim because it is a way to try and control the situation around us. It allows us to feel morally superior without having to actually take responsibility or make changes to our behavior. One clear way to recognize when we might be trying to control other people is if we are angry with them. We can sit around all day wanting them to change for us, but if they don't want to, there is very little that we can actually do.
