There are accounts of slaves being buried up to their necks, their faces slathered with sugar for the bugs to e eat them alive. It was called putting a little powder the arts of a negro. Slaves might intentionally work slowly, sabotage machinery or break tools. A step above intentionally jamming up the works was running away his san domain. And runaways were called maroons.
