How Much Attention Is Affecting Memory?
Carbon monoxide is an effective way of measuring how recently someone has smoked a tobacco cigarette. The people that showed more smoking in the on versus off session tended to show the greatest boost to their performance when they were on nicotine, specifically in the hippocampal-mediated task. Different levels of attention also matter a great deal and can have stronger effects on some types of memories than others.
