The Importance of Emotions in Social Interaction

Emotions permeate so much of our thinking and behavior. It's very difficult to form relationships without feeling emotions. But I think rules are important because we need to have explicit standards that we hold ourselves to, that we expect others to follow too. So rules can be more precise in a way that emotions can't be. And so shared rules can enable a kind of more precise, reliable cooperation that emotions don't provide.
