The Importance of Cultural Competence in Language Teaching

In a critical approach it is most important to select generative words in relation to language levels including the pragmatic these words cannot be selected according to purely phonetic criteria. So remember we're teaching adults who can't read peasants how to read and he says you can't select the words according to phonics or some phonetic program they have to be generative words. He says a word can have a special force in one area for instance and not in others this variation in meaning can occur even within the same city so there's your cultural competence  you got to have culturally relevant in a different way because the point is to bring up generative concepts or generative words rather than skills based learning
