As recently as last month, the Umbrella FTX Foundation said it had given away $140 million. It is unclear how much of that money made it to the recipients and how much was earmarked for giving and installments over several years. Asked whether he'd set up any kind of endowment for his giving, Mr. Bankman Fried said in a Times interview last month, it's more a pay as we go thing.

What the heck happened with FTX and Sam Bankman-Fried? Were there early warning signs that most people failed to notice? What could've been done differently, and by whom? What effects will this have on the EA movement going forward?

Marcus Abramovich is a managing partner at Enlightenment Ventures, an EA-aligned cryptocurrency hedge fund. Marcus also leads a Facebook group and Discord community of effective altruists focused on accumulating capital to donate to EA causes, and advises several cryptocurrency projects.
