Clifford burke, then a retired transit worker from chicago, spoke with the radio broadcaster studs turkle around 19 70. Burke said looking back, the people who really couldn't cope with the great depression were white folks. The average negro don't know such a thing as depression, because from the day he was born, he was born in depression. You take a fellow hat ta job, save paying him six dollars a week, and here, i'll make him 20. Why do these fellows, all these big wheels, why did they kill themselves?
