The Hidden Elephant in the Room

Many patients can actually be on ECMO without anti-quagulation. With our heparin bonded circuits, a lot of these patients can do okay. There's real problems to leaving a patient on for four weeks and then having a devastating neurological outcome. I think it would be a discussion that would really need to talk about risk versus benefits with the patient or their medical decision maker.
