The Role of Elite Universities in Faculty Hiring
The most elite universities train a huge fraction of the researchers that go on to have permanent positions in the US. The dominance of these universities and the faculty hiring network is really apparent, he says. And so this could be a good thing or a bad thing - it's not clear yet whether there are benefits for the scientific ecosystem from having such a concentration of influence as small number universities.
