The subway is the crucible part of which this, I mean, all so many people are packed onto the subway and New York is such a diverse culture that it's a fascinating sociological study just to ride the subway in New York. And you're right that there is this sense when you live there that these kinds of things can happen. Most of the time, at least when I live there, most of the time it is of no serious threat. But yes, it can be very unsettling the first time you see it.
