Goldwater was a nice place to start because Goldwater really appears on the scene after two decades of either a Democratic president or Dwight Eisenhower who's famous for his middle way. A, Goldwater shows up and says, look, we want it our way and we won't compromise. And he's willing just to say bombastic and outrageous things. He got destroyed in his race against Lyndon Johnson. But the foot soldiers of that campaign never forgot those lessons.
