Serfdom in the Russian Empire
Serfdom in Russia had a very sad, I would even say, disgusting shape. A landlord could lose his serf in cards or exchange for hunting dogs. Serf's had very limited rides, but even those they had were violated. For many centuries, the land of modern Ukraine were under the influence of two neighboring countries: Polish-Lithpania Commonwealth and Moscow-Zardom. The thing is that Kyiv is much older than Moscow, not to mention St Petersburg.
