The History of the Gardner Farm
The John Gardner Farm in Green Lawn is an old farm stand going back to the mid-1700s. In 1858, Alexander Gardner bought some land from his mother and tried his hand at a number of industries. He built processing plants that other cucumber growers could rent out to pickle their own crop. Pretty soon, Green Lawn had a thriving cucumber industry and they were pickling houses at the railroad station as well.
