How Does a Quantum Theory of Gravity Work?

Stephen hawkins is making progress on quantum gravity. He's trying to understand how gravity affects tiny, little particles which seem to follow very different rules from general relativity. And so that was his big breakthroughs to apply like statistical thermal physics to black holes. Of course, not a full theory of quantum gravity, lots of big questions remaining. But it sort of like a good step forwards, starting from making statements about what is allowed for black holes.
