Is Religion an Adaption?

You can't have mames without genes but you can have genes without mames. Catholicism is a massive expenditure of resources that comes with a very onerous set of restrictions on behavior. The costs in terms of fitness for being a Catholic are so high that there's no way that the physical structure of Catholics would not be out-competed by some group of atheists who did everything they did except didn't believe.
