Browsers actually kind of have two garbage collectors built in, one for the dom stuff and another for the java script stuff. This is again an example of where seems like the dom is like totally integrated with java scrip because you can access dom objects as if they're jobscript objects. But in reality, it's like this separate entity. And these sorts of leaks were one one example of that. Even to day, with these bugs fixed, you can still run into problems like that.
