Defending With Purpose Is Not Sufficient

If you are on the bottom in side control, it's not advisable to just sit there and shell up. You're almost always going to be in a better position if you can actually keep your arms and legs tethered to your body. Move your like steve sid move, you know, bump and trim in small increments until you can create a little bit of space. And then use your frames to make a make space as opposed to grabbing them or clasping your hands behind their heads  which is generally something that will lead into worse positions down the road.
