The Road to Serfdom by John Maynard Keynes
Hayek was born in Austria and his natural language was Austrian-German. He became a patriotic Englishman, he talked about our English values. The Road to Serfdom landed like a hand grenade in the midst of that more or less benign consensus after World War II. It is a surprisingly socialistic book - it wasn't far from various notions being marketed as socialism at the time.
