The Garcia Effect: A System of Learning

The aroma part of flavors is that they're learned in utero. And so if a pregnant mother prefers certain foods and those foods have strong aromas, her baby will prefer them within minutes of birth. But on top of that, there are also genetic differences between people. One researcher has identified one of the genes associated with sour taste but we don't really know how variable that gene is from person to person.
