Aristotle's Order of Loving

For Aristotle, a friendship is always involved in mutual goodwill. So if you don't have goodwill back for me, we're not friends for him. The other order though has to do with proximity. It's the opposite of what Dickens called telescopic philanthropy. That's where you look through your telescope at people and care so much about these people thousands of miles away.
