The Myth of Field Work

I think Malinowski is remembered in the US and perhaps in the UK as well as sort of the father of field work and the discoverer of Kula. What's important for him is that he was able to train so many students, and you have this wonderful chapter where you show how much a field work was not about being in the field necessarily but that the field was connected back to the LSE where Malinowski was teaching. You get the sense there that the field work is itself not a lone person on a beach somewhere, but part of a network of people who are in that institution generating a cohort.
