The car was such a class based object at first. Woodrow Wilson said that automobiles are like the best argument for socialism ever because there was so much class hostility. So, you have things like sharecroppers when there's a good cotton ear and there were a couple buying used Model T's. You have black men working as chauffeurs and developing the kind of technological expertise in the automotive industry.
