There is a basis for this that, and it relates to what you said earlier, that with fructose being metabolized at liver, we get this generation of ATP. And as part of that, one of these byproducts can be uric acid. We have other work that associates elevated uric acid with possibly things like hypertension, and therefore other deleterious effects on chronic disease. There was a meta analysis by David Jenkins group published in 2012, which was looking at controlled feeding trials and the impact of fructose on serum uric acid levels. But again, there's this relationship with the level of energy in the diet.
