Neurotics and the Demand of the Big Other
When the fantasy is undermined, the neurotic subject is going to take a different path. They can turn right and confront their anxiety by addressing the signal of the other's desire - but they don't. Instead, they turn back down this way and they come around here and they make another pass at the desire. This is precisely what Lacan is getting at in the early 50s. The true object sought out by the neurotic is a demand that he wants to be asked of him.
