History of Philosophy Without Any Gaps

CHAPTER

Paracelsus and Medicine

His works launched a movement of paracels and medicine that swept across europe. Treatments were based around the idea that the body is made up of four humors - blood, flem, black, bile and yellow bile shared their properties with aristotilian elements. Paracelsus compares the tree principles to seeds jumbled in a sack whose fruits emerge through natural and artificial processes of material transformation. His natural philosophy thus applies an organic metaphor even to supposedly dead matter.
