There are some symptoms that haven't actually made this long list yet. A lot of these things, including coverd to are thought to have kind of occurred after the initial acute infection. There was actually a bit of recent research that was published on covid toes. Interestingly, these researchers couldn't find any imunological evidence that they had actually been infected with covid. So they have suggested that maybe people were getting these weird, swollen toes for some other reason,. like being cooped indoors a lot, or maybe walking round there house with their shoes and socks off. I'm not sure about that. But you know who knows.
This week, the UK expanded its official Covid symptom list to 12 symptoms including sore throat, loss of appetite, and a blocked or runny nose. British scientists have long called for a broadening of the list, but the change comes at a time when free rapid tests have been scrapped, and the UK is seeing its highest ever levels of infection, according the the Office for National Statistics. Madeleine Finlay speaks to science correspondent Linda Geddes about why this has happened now, what symptoms still haven’t made the list, and what it could all mean going forward.
