The median rent for an apartment in a multifamily structure built in 2015 was $1,381 per month according to the Joint Center for Housing Studies. The National Low Income Housing Coalition reports that a full-time and minimum wage worker cannot afford a one-bedroom apartment at the fair market rent in a single US state. From 2003 to 2013, filtering increases the supply of low cost rental units with monthly rents of less than $800 by only 4.6%.
