The Problem With Automating Work
The problem is that machines are to automate certain tasks so that you don't have to do them. It seems to me that often the maintenance of a more heavy-duty petroleum-powered machine, say the lawnmower, dulls the mind from thought. On the farm, our bodies were physically active and physically busy, thus freeing up the mind.
