Monospace fonts are unique because they have to serve a certain purpose. They've got to fit into terminal windows and there's unique properties for monospace fonts in particular. What I've always looked for in a font for programming is disambiguity. These are things that must look different in the fonts, but others from that, it just, I think it's a matter of taste.
