Tides of History
What Do You Think About Early Greeks?
Greeks are one more player in this world where we're talking about, say, the 8th century to 6th century BCE when archaic Greek culture is emerging. And instead of thinking of that as, well, in a kind of teleological way, it's something that happens so that the Greeks do something better with it and then we have classical culture, we tend to sit that way. Instead, you just put them on a level with other groups, the Etruscans, the Sardinia, the Iberians, people in North Africa and wherever. So it's a much more fluid context of cultural interaction.
