I Was Shot in the Arm, I Was a Victim.
Chris Burden was shot in the arm during a performance of his work, shoot. He went on to become one of America's most well known contemporary artists. After shooting he crawled across broken glass and got crucified on top of a volk waggon beetle. Has since moved on from performance art to installations, but stands by shoot.
