The Inflation in Portugal During the 1970s

Victor Constancio was vice-president of the Bank of Portugal in the 1970s and 80s. During that period, inflation rates were incredibly high - 40% to 50%. In 1978 he negotiated a standby agreement with the IMF because we had a balance of payments problem. He says interest rates were increased by 5 percentage points but there wasn't a recession until 79.
