CNN's John Sutter predicts that the U.S. government will announce a deposit backstop for Wall Street banks. He says he thought it was likely to happen, based on lessons learned from Lehman Brothers' collapse in 2008. "It doesn't do a lot of harm to sort of formalize the kind of guarantee of deposits," writes Sutter. 'I couldn't think of any better alternative except ... unless they just made a gigantic mistake'
