The Myth of Artemis

In all of the major myths of Artemis, one must keep in mind the character and concerns of the goddess. As a virgin, Artemis had interested in many gods and men, but only one had managed to win her heart. In some versions, Orion tried to seduce one of Artemis' followers, and so she kills him out of jealousy. Yet another version, Artemis once loved Orion, but was tricked into killing him by her brother Apollo. A fourth version has it that Gaia had sent a scorpion herself to kill Orion because during the course of his hunting he boasted that he could kill every beast on Earth.
