The Relationship Between Slave Resistance and White Owners
In the North American colonies, only South Carolina had a population ratio where in most regions, black slaves actually outnumbered free whites. The land owning class and colonial times already feared the general people, the mob, but when slavery replaced indentured servants specifically because these elites feared the unruly white people. They just became even more scared of slaves rising up against them. That the Haitian revolution was successful proved to slave owning whites that their fears were in fact grounded in reality slave uprisings.
