The Unique Taste of Breadfruit
In Hawaii, breadfruit is called uleu and globally, it's really the only starchy staple food that grows on a tree. The trees can grow up to about 80 feet tall - around the height of two telephone poles atop one another. It produces an abundance of very nutritious fruit when it's soft and sweet. When it's starchy, it's like an annual field crop, and it can then be used as any kind of starchy staple, like rice or potatoes.
