The Tories' Return to One Nation Conservatism
David Cameron was the supposed great reformer of David Cameron, who came in in 2005. But as we've discussed in this podcast before, it was Artifice. It was basically a project to revive Thatcherism through a different language. And that provides the space for labor to win again. The Liberal Democrats danced to his darts, or at least the Nick Clegg wing did willingly and happily. In 2010, I think if the Tories had had a really serious grown up debate about how to quote William Hague, they would move on from the 80s and 90s to a new kind of set of assumptions and policies.
