The Moral Struggles Against Usury and Interest
There's the moral strictures applied to interest for quite, you know, I mean, really a thousand years or so of not moral. And it's encoded in the Bible, other beliefs. This idea of usury and interest is essentially evil, it's theft,. It's immoral, and there's all sorts of workarounds because for a variety of reasons described in the book. We find that again in Mesopotamia, in Greece, in Rome, throughout the ancient world and then in the modern world where the problem of debt bondage still exists today.
