Did the Homicide Spike Start in March or May?

Several people have questioned my attribution of the homicide spike as being caused by the pandemic. I disagree with them, and point out that there is no evidence to support this theory. The nation shut down for the pandemic in mid march 20 20. But the blacklives matter protests didn't start until after george floyd's death in late may 20 20.
