This section is really good and very strange. He arrives at this like hiring thing with bizarrely few people there. The first thing they see are all of these women standing on huge pedestals blowing trumpets. There's a bit of a continuity problem here because he meets a woman called Fanny who we've not met in the book at all. I thought she might be the same person as Clara. But for me just became so ominous which I think may be a complete different interpretation.
