The Role of Nephrons in Newborns
There's still a lot we don't truly understand about kidney physiology and development, but we're learning more with every kind of passing year. Nephron number can range by upwards of a million nephrons depending whether you're born at 24 weeks or full term. It actually takes to about two years of age for the hospital to really develop a mature GFR.
