For kids from a very, very young age, the people who are most important to them are their peers. The culture that you bring from your parents is kind of a script, right? It's like a little toolkit. And then you're comparing notes with the other kids. Some stuff that's in common, you keep in some stuff that's not in common,. You discard. There are these kind of gaps in our knowledge that will fill those gaps and that they will transform the cultural stuff that we inherit from our parents.
