How Did You Collect Data on the Use of Restraint and Seclusion in Schools?
The project sought data on the use of restraint and seclusion in schools across the country. The last time this data had been collected and then published was the 2017-18 school year. In New York, we made public records requests to 22 school districts around the state. We obtained five years of reports documenting incidents at these districts. And I interviewed countless families and teachers for this project.
