i've been studying visual perception for a long time. Most of my colleagues assume that evolution by natural selection favors organisms that see the world more accurately. And instead, what evolution has done it's shaped us with a user and her face. Think of your perceptions as a user inter face. The inner face is there not to show us the truth, but all the circuits and voltages and software inside. If you had to toggle voltages to craft an email, your friends would never hear from you. Is just too much mess. So the point of the interface is to hide the truth. In this metaphor, is to give you eye candy, little symbols that allow you to control the reality
