Tangentially Speaking with Christopher Ryan

CHAPTER

The Future of Extreme Weather Events

On the time scale of my kids' lives, they're not going to drown due to sea level rise. But I wouldn't be surprised if highway one starts to have more coastal erosion and some of the embankments collapse. On an almost annual basis that say, this ice sheet that we thought was pretty stable, actually it turns out it's no longer stable because it's been melted from the bottom past its tipping point. And then you go over to the tally board and you add up all those ice sheets that are water on land that won't be on land forever now. And you're up into the tens of meters of guaranteed sea level rise in a thousand years.
