Is Value Investing a Good Idea?

There are hypotheses in some sense, correct me if I'm wrong, that value investing of that sort is in some way impossible to do consistently. And so I have some sympathy for the proposition that an intelligent analyst might be able to get an edge on the perturbations of the market. So this would be me just basically picking stocks in a vanilla way both long and short,. But employing this method, which I definitely internalized at a very young age; there was nothing wrong with the method. In fact, I think the method is the only way to outperform the market over time.
