Do Students Have the Right to Talk About Drug Use in School?
We wanted to change the public perception of the case from this, you know, silly bonkits for jesus slogan, to this being a real free speech issue. The other thing that we did was we filed an amarchist brief in the case. And what we ted to do was draw a distinction between students promoting drug use in school and students talking about drug policy. In the end, while they did ban students, or not ban, but they did allow the schools to punish students for promoting drug use. Speech around drug policy is still considered protected speech in schools to day because of that concurring opinion.
